last night was the first time we visited this fine restaurant. But It is absolutely not the last time. We passed a splendid evening with the good service, with the great dishes and wine and with the honest cost. We will absolutely return there again.
It was good service and the food was above normal quality for a Chinese buffet. However, the quality is matched by an equally high price tag. There is definitely a good selection and quality to the restaurant, but I cannot say that it is worth the price, especially on weekends.
Just ordered takeout from this place. Definitely an upgrade from Yangtze River when comparing interior.
Got an avocado and cucumber maki and a vegetable fried rice for a total of $14, so not bad price wise.
Avocado maki was perfect, the perfect amount of sesame seeds makes everything better! Really cool thing that they do though, when I got my sushi I saw that they included a small plastic soy sauce dish. Very cute and handy! The fried rice was your standard looking, and tasting, fried rice from a buffet. It was simple and filling.
The people are also really sweet and professional. Props to the awesome hostesses.
So overall for the price the food is pretty good. I can't wait to try their dim sum on Sundays, or just have a regular sit down meal.
Very fresh food, even at the end of the night! I recommend any of the dishes, even the sushi is good here and the buffet has a variety of Chinese and Japanese dishes.
Formerly Yangtze River, Sanyo is a very good new Chinese restaurant in downtown Lexington, Mass. The service, sushi, and buffet were all very good, and the decor and atmosphere are more upscale but relaxed. We'll be back!
Love this place! Buffet is amazing, food is incredible, they are great for kids. Remodel is really nice
Would be even better if they provided more vegan or vegetarian options.
Such as fried veggie, leave the meat out.
Fried udon, would be great, just leave the shrimp out.
Other, waitresses are nice, new and clean.
P.S Chinese tea is not free
I had lunch buffet. I liked the hot and soup and wanted more. But I was told that only one serving is included in the buffet. To me, this is not right. Food was fine. But servers need more experience.
A great looking restaurant with friendly, attentive servers and a delicious buffet. Everything I tried was very tasty except for the General Gao's chicken.
I went back for a second plate of food and substituted Pepper Chicken in place of the General Gao chicken. Although very spicy, it was delicious and not at all tough like the Gao chicken.
In spite of the tough chicken, this place is excellent from tea to dessert. I highly recommend you try this restaurant.
For a fancy fusion sit-down, I typically dial my expectations way down. BUT Sanyo exceeded!
Flavors were rich and layered, not too salty, no or minimal MSG, and not overly oily. Ingredients SUPER FRESH and top quality. Their chili oil beef tripe app is the best version I've had here in MA so far. The mala tingle shines through, the tripe super tender but still chewy, and a slight sweetness to the flavor.
Ambience was lovely-- clean, understated, modern w soft lighting. They also had these ultra cool lunar-like light globes (forgot to snap a pic).
The only knock: small portions & pricey for dish sizes.
My wife and I have been here twice with our toddler, each time for their lunch buffet. We have found the service to be very good, and the food even better. While the buffet is on the smaller side, everything we tried - including the sushi - was well prepared and quite tasty. The vegetable tempura, for example, was clearly made with very fresh vegetables served a tick or two past al dente (as opposed to overcooked - which is far more common and far less desirable). In general, the restaurant tends to "err" slightly on the spicy side as opposed to the bland (or, worse, salty); I say "err" in quotation marks, however, because at no point was the spiciness disagreeable. It accentuated the flavors without overpowering them.
After reading some of the less positive reviews, I would note that this restaurant is still quite new (it's been open well less than a year as of this writing). The staff may still be working out some of the kinks; given the quality of the food and service when things are working smoothly, however, a little patience seems like a good investment.
Yum yum!!! We just came here for another dinner in the bar and I love the ease of the space, the friendly staff and the modern decor. The food is also really good. I love that the fried rice has water chestnuts! We also can say after 3 visits that all the bartenders are really good and know how to make some mean martinis !
We will Be back and hope that Lexington comes and explores it more now that it's changed hands and is no longer Yangtze.
Great food and very good service. I really enjoy it Their food is very fresh and is served piping hot, very delicious. They also provide a buffet at a reasonable price! I highly recommend you come and try their Japanese, Szechuan, and Chinese Menu.
Very nice place. Food was good. Service was slow, even though they were not busy. Give it a try.
We've been twice and the staff is incredibly friendly with inventive and delicious sushi specials that you should ask about (for now until the new sushi special menu is released). Best bar in any of the sushi restaurants in Lexington with prices and taste rivaling Diakanyama which has been our preferred spot... Until now. Come in and meet Jerry in the bar who is super friendly and enjoy a fantastic meal and killer drinks. Hot take: the pear martini is killer!
Delicious food. I like the spicy dishes here. Here also offer buffet. Yet we ordered out favorite dishes.
For those of you who remember the old Yangtze River which was in Lexington Center for almost 40 years Sanyo is in the same location. The place has beautifully and expensively remodeled. The luncheon buffet is still available. Food is prepared in small quantities and constantly refreshed. Sushi is available as part of buffet. Great dessert section. Food is excellent. Minor complaints tea is charged per person but is delicious and service was just ok. All in a great place to eat. Buffet is $15.95 per person. Check it out. You will be glad you did.
A place I will keep returning to. Even better than the previous restaurant that was in this location. Lunch buffet has a terrific selection can't wait to go back for dinner. The atmosphere is truly lovely and the staff is amazingly friendly.
Renovated with new owner. Used to be the Yangtze River. I love this place so much more than the old one. Authentic delicious Japanese and Chinese food. Full bar with great bartenders. Place is clean and beautiful. Love the managers and staff.
Sanyo is a very good new restaurant in Lexington Center. Although they have struggled getting started, each time (2) we have gone there we have been pleased with our meals. The previous occupant of that space, Yangtze River Restaurant, had been around for a long time and had gotten a little boring. Sanyo is far more interesting in the variety of dishes on it's menu. We like it.
First time there and was pleasantly surprised. We went late for lunch but the food was exquisite. The ambience was tastefully done and the service quick and polite. Definitely will go back.
Go here for the buffet. The price is well worth the quality and variety. Server today was very nice and checked in on my group very often to refill our water glasses.
We just had dinner at Sanyo Lexington and were pleasantly surprised.
Food was great and a fabulous menu.
Our server, Candy was a delight and very attentive.
The place is lovely.
Will return soon.
We just had our Christmas party at this restaurant and we couldn’t possibly pick a better place. The staff was amazing, great attention to everyone in the event and they have plenty of food. Everyone enjoyed the place and the food. I will definitely recommend them for events as well as for regular visits.
Formerly known as Yangtze River. The renovated new space evokes a cozy and refined atmosphere. We came here for dinner and the vegetarian options were fresh and delicious. The dishes are a bit pricey for the small size (and in comparison to Beijing restaurant down the street), but the ingredients seem to be more fresh and the flavors are more pronounced.
